My four-year-old son is starting to get into movies now, but the full-length features that get shown in theaters first are still a bit too long for him to handle in one sitting. Therefore, I’ve been taking advantage of some straight-to-DVD movies starring his favorite Disney characters. One such movie is called Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers.
This is an animated film that shows Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in France. When the movie starts, they’re youngsters and have an encounter with the real Three Musketeers. Mickey receives a hat autographed by the Musketeers and from that point forward, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy aspire to be Musketeers themselves when they get older.
They eventually get their wish and are soon assigned to protect Princess Minnie. The bad guys in this movie — Pete and the Beagle Boys — are plotting to kidnap the princess and replace her with an imposter so that Pete can become King of France. But of course Mickey, Donald, and Goofy come through in the end and save the day.
I think the plot of this movie was a bit too complicated for my son to understand, but he did enjoy watching his favorite Disney characters for an hour. That’s all it takes for a children’s movie to win my seal of approval, so I say go ahead and rent (or buy) this one!
