I already have a Nikon D70 digital SLR camera, but I decided to purchase a small point-and-shoot camera as well. I found that while the D70 is great for vacations and important occasions, it’s not exactly an ideal camera to tote around for everyday use. So after a lot of research, I bought a Casio Exilim EX-Z600. I’ve been using it for awhile now, and here are my impressions of it.

First of all, I just love the large preview screen on the back. It’s 2.7 inches (or something like that) and is big enough so that I can actually see details in the preview. I’ve found that with other cameras, the preview picture might look ok, but when I see the image on my computer screen, it is flawed.

Second, I like all the different shooting modes the Exilim has. It’s very easy to switch between regular (automatic) mode, movie mode, sports, closeups, dim lighting, night scenes, etc. Plus, the different modes have sample pictures so you know which one to use for a particular situation even if you don’t know what the mode is called.

Third, at 6.0 megapixels, the photos come out very nicely. In fine mode they come out ready to print and frame; in normal mode, they’re easy to send via email.

Overall, I just love my Casio Exilim EX-Z600. If you have any experience with digital cameras at all, you’ll be able to use this one right out of the box without even having to consult the owner’s manual or anything. It’s that user-friendly and intuitive!
