elektra jennifer garnerI was a big fan of the Alias television series and really liked the way Jennifer Garner portrayed a kick-ass spy. There aren’t too many action shows that feature female leads, so I appreciated that aspect of the show as well. So I decided to watch the 2005 movie Elektra even though I usually don’t watch comic book movies.

Garner stars as the title character, a woman named Elektra who is basically a hired assassin. Unfortunately, that’s about all I was able to determine about the plot. It seems as though the scriptwriters didn’t want to explore any one storyline in-depth, so they gave us a bunch of different ones to try to make sense of. The only problem is, they don’t give us nearly enough information about any of the storylines. Elektra’s background is shadowy, but that’s to be expected of superheroes. But her enemies and their goals are not very well defined either, and that made it hard for me to get into the movie.

The final verdict: Garner looks like she’s sleepwalking through most of her scenes, and I can’t say that I blame her. This was one boring film! I give it 1 star out of 5.
