Like most people, I’ve dreamed of starting my own business from time to time. I’m not particularly creative or innovative, so I always thought that buying into a franchise would be my best bet. I am fascinated by the fast food industry anyway, so I think this type of business would be a great fit for me.
However, several things have prevented me from pursuing my dreams. First of all, I don’t have nearly enough capital to buy into an established franchise right now. Second, since I’ve never done anything like that before, I don’t have as much confidence in my abilities as I should. Do I have what it takes to evaluate the various business opportunities out there to determine which ones are profitable? What if I buy into a loser? Can I run a business on my own? These doubts have been holding me back for a long time. And finally, I have to admit that I’ve been stonewalled by my own laziness. It’s just so much easier to sit back and do nothing than to take the initiative to make things happen. In the end, I guess, there’s no one to blame except myself.
I haven’t completely given up on my dream yet, but as I deal with the more pressing aspects of raising a family, my personal aspirations are definitely on the backburner for now. Check back with me in five years or so to see if I’ve moved on this at all!
