AskPatty in Second Life!

A couple of my friends are really into computer games and have been trying to get me to check out Second Life for ages. In case you don’t know, Second Life is a game consisting of a 3D virtual world where users create avatars that look, sound, and move like humans. These avatars then interact with each other in the virtual world, which makes it sound somewhat similar to the Sims series. At any rate, Second Life is a huge hit, with over 5 million registered accounts.

One of the cool features of Second Life is how real-world companies can insert themselves in the virtual world. For example, I just read that AskPatty, the website that specializes in giving automotive advice to women, is now a part of Second Life. There’s a cool little YouTube video (as well as a bunch of screenshots) on AskPatty’s Second Life Page that tells users about all the things they can do in the AskPatty lounge.

I didn’t realize how good the graphics in Second Life are. Everything on the AskPatty page looks so realistic to me and I think I’m starting to understand why people are so big on this game! Create HTML Forms Quickly

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a contact form on my websites to make it easier for readers to communicate with me, and vice versa. Right now most of the communication is handled through email, but because people don’t always make the best use of the subject line, I often skip over a lot of correspondence, thinking it’s just spam or something equally unimportant.

I think this problem would go away if I started using an online form for reader correspondence. I heard that a site called Forms4Free.com has wizard that walks users through the steps of creating different kinds of online forms. I tested the wizard myself and was impressed by how easy it was to use. There are lots of different options I can put into the forms, including dropdown boxes, text boxes, radial buttons, and a bunch more.

Now all I have to do is think about what kinds of fields I want to include in my online form and go grab the HTML code for it!

The Sopranos 6×15

The Sopranos I’m way behind with all of my TV shows this week because I’ve been extremely busy with other things. As a result, I’m just going to write out my reaction of the latest Sopranos episode that aired on April 22. It was number 6×15 and was called “Remember When”.

I thought this was one of the better episodes I’ve seen recently. There wasn’t exactly much “action,” which is what I’ve been clamoring for during the entire sixth season, but at least there was tension. The part where Tony and Paulie were out on the boat together had me literally on the edge of my seat. Then, I thought for sure Paulie was a goner when Tony kept bringing up the Ginny Sack joke that got back to Johnny. I mean, Tony came right out and accused Paulie of being the snitch! Yikes.

Although I liked the Tony and Paulie scenes, I was bored to tears with the whole Junior storyline. I have never thought this character was interesting and just don’t care about him at all. Why do we have to keep seeing what he’s up to? Am I supposed to be saddened when I see this once-powerful gangster succumb to old age? Was I supposed to be moved when Junior lost control of his bladder or when he got into those pathetic fights? Ugh. I know this character is beloved by many Sopranos fans (especially those on the TWOP boards), but I have never ever liked him and don’t give a damn about his fate.

I have a feeling that things will be picking up on The Sopranos from here on out. Let’s hope the stretch run deals with the feds building their case against Tony and with the gang’s response to the pressure. I want to see more of Christopher, Sil, Bobby, Paulie, and Tony interacting the way they’re supposed to be: all together in the back room of the Bing rather than one-on-one in various locations.

Can’t wait for next week!

Convenience of Online Banking

I started doing all of my banking online a few years ago. At first I was a bit skeptical and wary of the whole process. I didn’t know if my information would be secure, if transactions would go through properly, or if I would be able to find the most competitive checking, savings, or current accounts available. Moreover, I wasn’t sure how responsive the bank’s customer service reps would be if I had to report a problem. But I decided to go for it anyway and once I got the hang of online banking, I loved the convenience of being able to manage my money 24/7 without having to leave my home.

My experience with online banking has, for the most part, been wonderful. The only real problem I had occurred just a few weeks ago when I tried closing down one of my savings accounts in order to transfer the money to checking. I just transferred all the money to checking without actually closing savings. This left me in violation of the minimum balance agreement, and my bank charged me a substantial fee because of it.

I just accepted the fee since I was in violation of the terms of service, but today I read that I probably should have put up a fight. Many people successfully claim bank charges and get their money back when the charges prove to be unfair, so I will have to keep this information in mind the next time I get charged any extra fees.

The bottom line here is that I love the ease and convenience of online banking. I think I’ve only stepped foot inside my bank twice in the last seven years and I wouldn’t want it any other way now!
