My husband Jerry and I have this endless debate going on about travel accommodations. He thinks it’s better (meaning more affordable) to stay in hotels and eat every meal at a restaurant, while I think it would be better to rent a condo or home for a weekly rate and have access to a kitchen to cook meals. Jerry never handles the money, which is why he doesn’t seem to realize how quickly that $20 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, and $50 for dinner adds up.
To prove my point, I pulled out our receipts and records (yes, we keep this stuff — we’re freaks!) from our last Disney vacation. I tallied up what we actually spent on our hotel and food and then checked online for the average price of an Orlando rental home to see what we would have spent using my idea.
It turns out that we probably would have saved a bit of money if we had rented one of the lower-end homes for the week we were there. Well, even if it wasn’t as much as I thought, I was still right, so hopefully this accommodation debate can end once and for all!
