I’ve been reading bedtime stories to my son for years, and I have to say that it’s a lot of fun to watch his progress from passive listener to active participant. Of course we first started off with picture books, then we slowly moved on to books that contained simple plots. Now that my son is almost five years old, we’re getting into books with more complex and interesting storylines, which is definitely a treat for both of us!
With my son’s birthday coming up in a few months, I decided that now would be the perfect time to buy him a personalized children’s book that features his name (along with a couple of his friends) right there in the story. I had one of these books when I was a child, and it was a favorite of mine for many years. After all, what child wouldn’t love reading or hearing their own name in a real bedtime book?
I didn’t know the first thing about how to order personalized children’s books, so I just did a quick search on the Internet to see what I could come up with. I guess these books are still wildly popular with children, because I got a lot of results back from my search. I looked through a bunch of websites to compare prices, book titles, and quality before settling on DHChildrensBooks.com.
I decided to go with DH Books because they had the best selection of titles to choose from and because their books are hardcover whereas most other sites just offer paperback books. Moreover, I found their prices to be extremely competitive and I liked the fact that I could pay with PayPal instead of having to divulge my credit card information. Anyway, I chose the Scooby-Doo book (my son LOVES Scooby right now), filled out a quick order form, and sent payment via PayPal. That process was very easy and took just a few minutes.
I then received a notice the next day that my order had already shipped! I wasn’t expecting that since I chose the standard shipping option, but it was definitely a nice surprise. Unfortunately, there were problems with the mail delivery and I never received that first book.
After a couple of weeks, I contacted DH Books to let them know about the situation. The owner replied to me directly, apologized for the inconvenience, and said that he’d never had a book go missing before. He immediately offered to print and ship another book out to me, and did so within the next two days. He sent the second book via Priority Mail at no extra charge, and I received this one without incident.
I would like to note that the owner was very accommodating throughout the entire process. He never questioned me, never tried to make excuses, and never blamed anyone else (even though this clearly wasn’t his fault). He genuinely wanted me to be happy with my purchase, and he went the extra mile to make sure that happened.
I was planning on holding this book until my son’s birthday, but I couldn’t wait that long! I started reading it to him the day the book arrived, and have done so every night since then (about a week now). My son absolutely LOVES this book (as I knew he would) and can’t wait for bedtime so we can sit down to read it. The story is actually interesting, the illustrations are beautiful, and my son just can’t get over the fact that he gets to help Scooby and the gang solve a mystery.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with both the product and service I received from DH Books. I was a bit surprised at how nice their personalized children’s books are, given the low price, and I’ll definitely be ordering more titles from them in the future.
