A few days ago I posted on one of my other blogs about some of the new TV shows that I’ll be keeping an eye on this year. I mentioned that Josh Schwartz’s new series, Gossip Girl on The CW, is one that definitely looks interesting. I know I’m a bit old to be watching teen dramas all the time, but I can’t help it! I’m currently in the middle of going through The O.C. (another Schwartz-produced series) on DVD, and I just love that show, so I have high hopes for Gossip Girl as well.

In case you haven’t seen any of the previews or promos for the show, here’s a brief glimpse of what you can expect. Gossip Girl centers around the lives of rich young people living in New York’s Upper East Side. We’ll see how they deal with their elite schools as well as all the other stuff that goes hand-in-hand with being a young adult, such as sex, drugs, partying, and so forth. The series stars up-and-coming actors like Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, and Penn Badgley.

What will make this show unique is that in addition to the characters we see on screen, we’ll get an omniscient voiceover from the “Gossip Girl,” a blogger who dishes the dirt about her peers on a popular website. Her true identity is a mystery, and I’m sure one of the running storylines will be how the other characters try to find out who Gossip Girl really is.

I’m intrigued by the premise of this show and love the fact that blogging will play such a huge role in the plot. As a blogger, I know firsthand how rumors and gossip can spread like wildfire once they’re posted on blogs, and I’m sure Gossip Girl’s site will really stir things up in her particular social circle.

The series premiere of Gossip Girl is Wednesday September 19 at 9pm Eastern. I should probably be able to tune in for the first broadcast, but I’ll set my TiVo up to record the show just in case. If you liked The O.C., be sure to check out Gossip Girl next Wednesday on the CW!
