AoJJbtCrf There are a couple of movies opening this weekend that I’m interested in seeing. First up is The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (how do titles like that get past studio execs??) starring Brad Pitt as Jesse James. One problem here is that the running time is almost as long as the title, and I really doubt I can sit through the whole 2 hours and 40 minutes in the theater. I’ll probably end up waiting for the DVD, unless word-of-mouth is so strong that I just can’t ignore it.

jabc Next, I also want to see is The Jane Austen Book Club, which features an ensemble cast that includes Maria Bello, Maggie Grace (I just saw her in Lost), Jimmy Smits, and more. It’s about six people who start a book club to discuss Jane Austen’s stuff, only to discover that their lives pretty much mirror what’s going on in the novels. I can see how a film like this might be cheesy if done the wrong way, but Roger Ebert gave this 3.5 stars, so that’s enough to make me want to see it.

Also opening this week are several films I have no desire to see, such as Resident Evil: Extinction, Into theWild, and Good Luck Chuck. I might check out Into the Wild on DVD, but that’s just another kind of movie I can’t watch in theaters. I can already tell it would take me several sittings to get through it!
