greystitle.jpg Last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was called “The Heart of the Matter.” I’m a bit pressed for time right now, so let’s get right to the recap.

Callie/George/Izzie/Alex: After George tells Callie that he slept with Izzie, Callie’s only response is, “I forgive you.” Callie then proceeds to walk around Seattle Grace in a daze the next day, barely listening to patients’ problems or anything that the other doctors say to her. The only thing she does is tell Izzie (in the most ominous tone possible) that she wants to meet her in the cafeteria at noon.

Izzie’s interns overhear that exchange, and soon the entire hospital is buzzing with the news that Callie wants to kick Izzie’s ass. While scrubbing in for surgery, Alex asks Izzie what that whole thing is about. Izzie tells him the truth: that she slept with George and now Callie is looking for revenge. Alex reacts with absolute disgust to this news, a he can’t believe Izzie would actually sleep with O’Malley.

Everyone gathers in the cafeteria at the appointed hour, but it turns out that Callie just wanted to talk to Izzie. She looks around, sees that everyone was expecting a cat fight, rolls her eyes, and leaves. Later, she confronts Izzie in the hall, and lays the smackdown on her: “Don’t you dare come to me for forgiveness, you traitorous bitch.” Dayum!

Meredith/Derek/Cristina/Lexie: Derek invites Meredith to go away for the weekend, even though they’re not a couple. After a bit of hesitation, Meredith agrees. But just as they’re about to take off, Derek changes his mind. Apparently, after spending the day talking to Lexie, he decided that maybe it’s best to back off for a while. He tells Meredith that he wants to get married, settle down, have kids, and grow old together. He knows that Meredith isn’t ready for all that yet, so he’ll wait — unless someone else who is ready for those things comes along in the meantime. Niiice.

Cristina is all over Lexie once again because she reveals herself to be little more than a stammering, bumbling intern. However, Derek steps in and protects Lexie all. day. long. Which, frankly, got to be quite annoying. By the end of the ep, Cristina learns Derek’s rather heavy-handed lesson and starts teaching Lexie instead of just snapping at her. (But at least Cristina still calls her Three!!)

Chief Webber: The Chief’s niece is rushed to the emergency room once again after she has trouble breathing. The reason is that her cancer is back. There are huge tumors in her throat and other areas of her body, which will require extremely aggressive chemo and experimental treatments. But the girl doesn’t want to go through all that. She simply wants to acknowledge that her fight is over so she can spend her last months with her friends and family in the comfort of her own home.

My Reaction: I thought this was a fairly decent episode. There were several things that I liked, along with several things that I didn’t, so things balanced out in the end.

I loved Alex’s reaction to Izzie when she told him about George. There was just so much contempt in his voice when he said, “You slept with O’Malley? I’m embarrassed for you.” And he was right on about Izzie’s b.s. excuses about not being ready for a relationship after Denny died. I think this episode finally showed people what a completely selfish bitch Izzie has been for the last year or so. She got what she deserved.

Yes, I also liked Callie’s smackdown of Izzie, but not as much. Callie had been pissing me off all episode long with her mopey, spacey behavior, so by the time the critical scene came around, I was only half paying attention. I mean, Izzie totally had it coming, but at the same time I hate Callie and George as a couple, so I didn’t get too excited about the exchange.

Derek and Meredith practically made me gag in that opening elevator scene when he was kissing her with a wide-open mouth. Man, that was some nasty stuff right there. Not surprised at all that their relationship is still not defined. Wake me when this crap is over.

I also HATED that Derek stuck up for Lexie every time Cristina said something to her. Yes, it’s a teaching hospital and Cristina wasn’t doing a very good job of teaching. But it was just wrong for Derek to contradict Cristina right in front of her intern. What an ass.

The scenes between the Chief and his niece made me tear up. That always happens whenever I see a character who has accepted his or her fate and is ready to face death. What a brave young woman!

Well, that’s about all I can think of from this episode. Looking forward to the next ep!
