Top Movies for 1/6/08

nt2.jpg National Treasure: Book of Secrets retained the top spot at the box office for the third consecutive week with a haul of $20.2 million, bringing its domestic gross to a healthy $171 million. The original National Treasure movie, starring the same core cast, earned a total of $173 million domestically, so this sequel is obviously going to blow well past that figure.

Will Smith’s I Am Legend held onto second place, and is now well past the $200 million mark. One Missed Call, a horror film starring Edward Burns and Shannyn Sossamon, debuted with a respectable $13.5 million in ticket sales. This was the only nationwide new release last week.

Here’s a rundown of the complete top 10, as well as estimated figures for the weekend take.

  1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets, $20.2 million
  2. I Am Legend, $16.4 million
  3. Juno, $16.2 million
  4. Alvin and the Chipmunks, $16 million

College Credit

Getting credit while in college is often an important step towards financial independence. No, I’m not talking about taking classes in order to graduate, though of course that’s the ultimate goal in attending school. I’m talking about obtaining a credit card in order to start establishing a credit history. A good credit history will make it easier to buy a car, lease an apartment, and make other necessary purchases as you settle into independence and post-university life.

For better or worse, Credit Cards For College Students are relatively easy to get these days. I’m not going to delve into fiscal responsibility in this post and tell you how to use your credit card wisely. Instead, I’ll just advise you to do some credit card comparisons before you sign up for any one particular card to ensure that you’re getting fair terms and a reasonable interest rate.

CreditCardSearchEngine.com is a good website to go to for these types of comparisons. The data are laid out in a nice table so you can quickly see which features certain cards offer. This makes it easier to find the right card for your needs — an important first step towards establishing your credit rating.
