Do you remember when Home Improvement was the most popular TV show around? It aired from 1991-1999, won several technical Emmys, was nominated for a bunch more, and was pretty much just a great show — at least for the first four or five years it was on the air.
The show focused on the Taylor family, headed up by Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor (Tim Allen). This character had his own home improvement show on TV, and all he ever seemed to think about was restoring classic cars, building things with his festool tools (or whatever brand he used), and keeping his three sons in line — a tall order, given the fact that Tim was more like a fourth kid than anything else!
Fortunately, wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) represented the calming voice of reason in the family, and would usually help work out any problems the male Taylors got into.
I used to watch Home Improvement all the time back then, but haven’t seen it in years. I don’t think it’s in syndication in my area here, so I haven’t seen reruns or anything in ages.
But over the weekend, I picked up the Season 1 DVDs, and started watching a few of the eps. Some of the things in it are dated, obviously, but I was surprised at how well the comedy has held up over time. This is still a funny show!
