Viral Videos on Television

As someone who spends a lot of time online, I’m simply amazed at how popular so-called “viral videos” have become. There are a number of websites that feature nothing but user-generated videos, and these sites are some of the most popular on the entire Internet.

I have to admit that I view quite a few viral videos each day as I surf through my favorite sites. In fact, most of the time, this user-generated content is more interesting than anything I see on national television on any given day. There’s just something strangely compelling about watching regular people ham it up for the cameras!

For example, I was browsing through the YawpBox earlier today, and I saw a hilarious video that still has me laughing! It started out as an ordinary wedding video, showing the newlyweds sharing their first dance together as husband and wife. They’re slow-dancing to “Unchained Melody” and it looks very romantic and all that.

Then, all of a sudden, the song cuts off and is replaced by “Baby Got Back.” This was obviously an orchestrated move, as the bride and groom then launch into a dance routine that matches the lyrics — much to the delight of the crowd! It was awesome!

Usually, the only people who would see this type of video are those who stumble across it online. But now, thanks to YawpBox TV, viral videos can now be played for a wider audience.

YawpBox TV is a “magazine style” show filmed before a live studio audience in Dallas, TX each week. The show’s hosts, Lex & Terry, issue challenges specifying what type of video content they want, and then viewers create videos complying with the topic. The best user-generated videos will be featured on future episodes of YawpBox TV — which is perfect for those looking for a shot at their 15 minutes of fame!

YawpBox TV sounds like a lot of fun, and is something I’m definitely going to check out!

Golden Globe Winners

ggceremony.jpg Well, the Golden Globe ceremony was canceled because of the ongoing WGA strike, but the awards were still announced. Apparently, Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, just stood behind a mic and read off the nominees and winners, a proceeding which took all of 30 minutes. Here’s a short list of winners in some of the bigger categories:

Edit: I guess there were other people announcing the awards as well, not just Mr. Camara. From the highlight clip I saw, it looked like it was just him.

Sorry for any confusion!
