Prevent Identity Theft

lifelocklogo.gif

Identity theft is a major concern of mine because I do a lot of online shopping and banking. I’ve actually had my credit card number compromised a couple of times after making purchases on sites that weren’t as secure as they could have been, and it was no fun going through the dispute process with the card issuer.

After these bad experiences, I’m starting to think that a service like lifelock would be perfect for me. LifeLock is a company that provides identity theft protection for individuals, families, and children by setting up fraud alerts on their behalf. Once those alerts are in place, creditors and banks will be required to verify the identity of anyone who tries to get new credit cards or apply for a line of credit in the name of the person listed in the fraud alert.

Just think about all the things that routinely happen to victims of identity theft. Their credit cards get maxed out, their bank accounts get depleted, they encounter difficulties at work, they have trouble receiving earned entitlements, and they even get arrested for fraud (or worse). LifeLock can help prevent these problems from ever occurring by protecting your name and vital information from would-be thieves.

This service costs only $10 per month (or $110 for a year). I think the peace of mind that comes with being a LifeLock client would be well worth that price, so I’m definitely going to look into signing up.

If you’re worried about the adverse effects of identity theft, then you should check out LifeLock today. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

Roy Scheider Dies at 75

rsjaws.jpg You’ve probably heard by now that actor Roy Scheider, perhaps best known for his role as police chief Martin Brody in Jaws, passed away yesterday at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Hospital in Little Rock.

I don’t know too many details about Scheider’s death, but apparently he had been receiving treatment for myeloma for several years. He was 75.

Jaws is one of my husband’s favorite movies of all time, and he especially liked Scheider as Brody. Needless to say, he’s pretty bummed about this news.

I know that Scheider recently completed a couple of new films, so we’ll be sure to look for them when they’re finally released.

Justice League DVD Giveaway!

jlcover.jpg It’s been a long time since I’ve done a giveaway on this blog, so I’ve decided to hold a quick contest for you. The rules are going to be a bit different than my past giveaways, so please read through this entire post before sending in your entries.

The prize up for grabs is a brand-new Justice League: The New Frontier DVD, which isn’t even available in stores yet! This DVD is based on the wildly popular graphic novels from Darwyn Cooke, and chronicles the adventures of the most powerful superhero team in the world. The New Frontier takes viewers back in time to show how Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter first decided to join forces to combat evil.

The New Frontier has a running time of 75 minutes, and features the voices of some pretty big stars, including David Boreanaz as the Green Lantern, Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman, Neil Patrick Harris as the Flash, Kyle MacLachlan as Superman, and Jeremy Sisto as Batman. Plus, the DVD has some cool extras that you won’t find anywhere else!

flash_closet.jpg My son loves the Justice League, so he’s very excited about this DVD. It’s perfect for those of you who have kids, who are fans of DC comic superheroes, or who enjoy the work of the talented actors involved in this project.

As I said, Justice League: The New Frontier isn’t available in stores yet, as it won’t be released until February 26. But I’m giving you a chance to win your very own copy here between now and Monday, February 18.

There are two different ways you can enter this contest.

First, you can simply send an email to contest@reviewsandmore.net with the phrase “Justice League DVD” in the subject line. That will get you a single entry in the drawing. Or, if you have a blog, you can write a short post (100 words will do) about the upcoming release of this new Justice League DVD, and email the URL to contest@reviewsandmore.net with “Justice League DVD Link” in the subject line. Doing this will get you three entries in the drawing.

Note: your post about the Justice League DVD release does NOT have to contain a link back to my site!

One week from today (on Monday, Feb. 18) at 5:00 p.m. ET, I will put the names of all eligible entrants into a randomizer and pick a winner. I will then contact that winner for a mailing address, which I will pass along to the contest sponsor who will actually mail out the DVD. If I don’t hear back from the winner within 48hrs, I will draw another winner.

Good luck with the contest, and be sure to check out the DVD even if you don’t win!

Top Movies for 2/10/08

foolsgoldmmkh.jpg Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds became the latest movie to have trouble holding onto the No.1 box office spot beyond its debut weekend. The concert film starring Miley Cyrus sold just $10.5 million in tickets one week after dominating theaters with a $29 million take.

The new box office champion was the Matthew McConaughey/Kate Hudson romantic comedy Fool’s Gold, which earned a healthy $22 million. This number was a bit surprising considering the fact that the film has been roundly panned by critics and audiences alike (it has just a 10% freshness rating on RottenTomatoes.com)

Third place, with $17.1 million in sales, went to the new Martin Lawrence comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. This film was also a dud with critics, so you can expect its numbers to drop off next weekend.

Paris Hilton’s latest cinematic effort, The Hottie and the Nottie, earned a dismal $25,000 while playing in 111 theaters.

Here’s the complete Top 10 for this weekend:

  1. Fool’s Gold, $22 million
  2. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, $17.1 million
  3. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, $10.5 million
  4. The Eye, $6.6 million
  5. Juno, $5.72 million
  6. 27 Dresses, $5.7 million
  7. The Bucket List, $5.3 million
  8. Rambo, $4.1 million
  9. Meet the Spartans, $4.08 million
  10. There Will Be Blood, $4.07 million
