dh-logo1.jpg Desperate Housewives was back with another all-new episode last night. This one was called “We’re So Happy You’re So Happy” (they love the unwieldy titles, don’t they), and served to reveal just a bit more about how the main characters’ lives have changed in the five years that were skipped over. I’m actually digging this whole process, because it’s like we have all new characters again. It’s fun to learn these things bit by bit, and if the whole season can be as good as these first two episodes, that would be a treat!

Bree/Orson: Bree is busy doing press tours for her upcoming cookbook, in which she’s billed as Mrs. Van de Kamp. Orson takes issue with that, but Bree says it’s all about marketing. Van de Kamp has a musical ring to it, while Hodge sounds like the noise a plunger makes. Bree also had to cater the biggest party of the season at the country club, and as a result, didn’t have any time to spend with Orson — even after promising to make him his favorite pot roast two nights in a row. On the third night, he sat at the dinner table in front of empty plates until Bree returned home at midnight and demanded that she make the pot roast right now. Strangely enough, she complied, albeit through tears.

Lynette: Lynette is saddened by how distant and moody Porter has been recently. The two used to talk all the time, but now that he’s 16, he has shut her out completely. Then Parker (I think that’s the name; the non-twin boy) tells her she can check up on Porter via his SilverFizz page, which is supposed to be like MySpace or FaceBook.

So Lynette goes on there posing as a 16-year-old high school girl. She learns that Porter is into poetry and has a sensitive side, but then of course Porter falls for her online persona and wants to ask her out. That’s when Lynette has to let him down by saying she already has a boyfriend — but she stupidly signs the message “Love, Mom”. She apologizes to Porter, but he goes back to not responding to her.

Gaby/Carlos: Carlos is working from home as a masseur, but Gaby doesn’t like the setup at all. She hates walking in on clients, and she also doesn’t think it brings in enough money. They were just invited to the social event of the season, but she doesn’t have money to buy a new dress. So she nags at Carlos until he takes a job at the club. But then when the hostess of the party finds out that Carlos now works at the club, she sends Bree to disinvite Gaby. Gaby crashes the party anyway, but she and Carlos eventually get thrown out. After whining about all the things she doesn’t have anymore, Carlos points out that they’re lucky because they’re a lot happier than the rich snobs that he works on at the club.

Susan/Mike: After Mike sees Jackson coming out of Susan’s house early one morning, he insists on spending time getting to know the guy. After all, this man is going to be spending time under the same roof as MJ, so Mike has to make sure he’s ok. The two actually hit it off, but Susan freaks out when she learns that Mike revealed one of Susan’s secret turn-ons. Surprisingly enough, Susan and Mike hammered things out like adults and are fine with each other again.

Edie/Dave: Edie was in a huff because Mrs. McCluskey said something mean about her boob job, so she wanted to leave Wisteria Lane immediately. That would screw up Dave’s plan, so he convinces Karen — by kidnapping her cat — to apologize to Edie. After the apology, the cat reappears as mysteriously as it disappeared. Later, Karen goes over to Katherine’s house to start Googling Dave.

My Reaction: The Dave character is so damn creepy that I’m still not sure how even Edie could have been taken in by him. He just gives off a very weird vibe that most people would pick up on from a mile away. It’s hard to believe that Edie has been duped by him for this long. And I’ll be a bit pissed if McCluskey finds anything about Dave on Google. That’s just another thing that Edie should have done on her own. What? Don’t tell me you don’t Google people you know!

The Lynette storyline was something I would have hated last year, but that’s because they would have dragged it out for five episodes last year. This time it was brought up and handled quickly, and it actually worked well for a one-ep deal. I’m sure the fallout will continue for a few eps, but at least the posing as a high school girl part is done with. BTW, didn’t someone on this show do something similar last season? No? I’m probably getting this confused with a different series. Oh, and how funny was Tom with some of his Oedipus cracks? He’s sooo much more tolerable as a smart-ass than as a whiny loser.

What is the deal with Orson and Bree these days? She was always the one in control of their marriage, but now she suddenly caves in to his unreasonable demands for pot roast at midnight? And she cries about it?? He must absolutely have dirt on her that he’s not opposed to pulling out for blackmailing purposes. Either that or he has become abusive. Whatever the case may be, something’s not right with that marriage.

Overall, this was another good episode. I’m pretty happy with the way the season is going and hope that it continues in this direction. I’m slowly getting back on board the DH love train!
