I’ve managed to knock out four more episodes from the first season of NCIS. I have to admit that although things started pretty slowly for me, I’m really beginning to enjoy and appreciate the show now. It seems as though it’s hitting its stride: the mysteries are more compelling, the characters are more interesting, and the finished product is a lot better in every way. I knew there had to be something to this show — especially since it’s currently in Season 6. Bad shows don’t last that long anymore!
Anyway, here are a few thoughts from episodes 1×11 to 1×14, called “Eye Spy”, “My Other Left Foot”, “One Shot, One Kill”, and “The Good Samaritan”, respectively.
– I thought the twin twist in TGS was cool. I mean, having an evil twin is about as old a ruse as there is, but since there wasn’t a hint of the sister’s existence throughout the ep, the reveal still came as a surprise. Not in a deus ex machina sort of way, either. Just a good twist.
– In fact, the entire “Good Samaritan” episode was excellent, what with the ex-wife orchestrating the serial killer plan just to cover up her husband’s murder. Also, that local sheriff who had the hots for Gibbs added some much-needed humor to the ep.
– “Eye Spy” was interesting in that a murder was witnessed via satellite. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that scenario in any of the numerous crime dramas I watch, so I definitely appreciated the originality. Sometimes these shows have a tendency to overlap as far as crimes and motives go.
– I like the team well enough thus far, but besides Gibbs being the obvious leader, I don’t really know what the other members’ job descriptions are. Are Tony and Kate just general investigators, or what? I guess I’m used to CSI, where every team member has a specialty (ballistics, blood spatter, entomology, etc.).
– “One Shot, One Kill” was a bit scary because niper stuff always manages to freak me out. I mean, the thought of getting killed from a hidden shooter several hundred yards away is scary, right?
Like I said, I’m definitely enjoying NCIS a lot more now, and will probably wrap up Season 1 within the next few weeks. Then it’ll be right on to Season 2, so I better order my DVDs now!
