Last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother was called “Not a Father’s Day”, and was pretty weak IMO. The plot mostly centered on Marshall and Lily’s debate about whether or not their ready to have a baby, which wasn’t very interesting — or funny — at all.

There was also a subplot about one of Barney’s hookups possibly being pregnant, but that turned out to be a false alarm and led to Barney creating his own holiday, called Not a Father’s Day. Meanwhile, Robin moves out of Lily and Marshall’s apartment into Ted’s spare room until she can get back on her feet.

– Barney’s shenanigans are usually funny, but the whole Not a Father’s Day thing was just lame. Also, I thought it was extremely out of character for Barney to get sentimental over a baby sock — though singing Cat’s Cradle at the end was worth a chuckle.

– It was also out of character for Robin to fawn over the baby sock. Being jobless and homeless, you’d think she would have more important things on her mind than kids — especially since she’s not even in a steady relationship at the moment.

– I find that I’m tuning in mostly to see where the writers take the Barney-Robin relationship, so when I get nothing on that front, I become grumpy. Come on, already! You can’t have Barney declare his love for Robin and then barely address it in the next seven episodes!

– I am really hoping that the writers aren’t setting up a potential love triangle with Robin moving in with Ted. I can envision Ted and Robin getting back together again — even if it’s just casually at first — which would cause all kinds of drama with Ted and Barney. Please, just… don’t!
