Last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother was called “Wooo” and was actually pretty funny for a change. I haven’t been overly impressed by recent HIMYM eps, so I wasn’t expecting too much out of this one, but it was good for several laughs. Here’s what happened:

Barney/Ted: Barney’s company was in the process of hiring an architect to design their Goliath National Bank headquarters in the city, so Barney, as head of the search committee, brought Ted in to make a pitch against Sven, a Swedish cooperative popular for their trendy designs. This kind of project was just the thing Ted needed to get over his breakup with Stella, plus it would really advance his career if he could bring his firm the extra business.

After seeing both pitches, however, Barney cast his vote for Sven — because their design consisted of a fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex and Barney’s office would have been way up in the head. Ted is devastated to learn that he didn’t win the project, but after Marshall finds out what really happened, he convinces Barney to change his vote.

Lily/Robin: Robin wants to start hanging out with Lily without Marshall tagging along, so Lily invites her to come out to a birthday party for Jillian, a fellow teacher. Lily is horrified to discover that these women who seem so normal at work are actually “wooo girls” — women who scream “wooo!” about every little thing that happens. Lily finds this annoying, but Robin actually likes it because she’s at a place in her life where she’s a wooo girl too. Lily understands, with both women agreeing that it’s just a temporary thing and that Lily will always be around for regular conversations and nights out and so forth.

My Reaction: I thought the “wooo girls” were hilarious because don’t we all know a group like that? I loved the subtitles telling us what the various wooos really meant — awesome! Was that Jamie-Lynn Siegler (aka Meadow Soprano) as Jillian? If so, I have to say that I actually like her in the new roles I’ve seen her in. She’s been on Entourage a few times, and now on HIMYM too. She wasn’t that likable as whiny, spoiled Meadow, but she’s been great on these other shows.

The only thing I didn’t like about this ep was the way they showed Barney selling Ted out for something as ridiculous as a dinosaur building. Yes, Barney has done terrible things to his friends in the past, but none of those things were on as large a scale as this. I could maybe see this happening if the Sven design was actually better than Ted’s, but a fire-breathing dinosaur? No way!

Unfortunately, there was no real Barney/Robin interaction in this ep either, though I did like the way he looked her up and down after her outing with the wooo girls in the stretch Hummer. He still notices her!
