The Tyler Perry comedy Madea Goes to Jail remained the No.1 movie in America for a second straight week, despite mostly negative reviews from the nation’s critics and dismal reaction from fans (the film currently boasts a 2.8 star rating on IMDb.com). It managed to earn another $16.5 million over the weekend to top all other films, and has now grossed $64.8 million in two weeks.
Second place went to the Jonas Brothers with their 3D Concert Experience drawing in tween girls to the tune of $12.7 million. Not quite Miley Cyrus numbers perhaps, but still respectable for a teenage boy band.
Slumdog Millionaire, buoyed by its recent Oscar win for Best Picture, made a strong showing at the box office as well. It generated another $12.2 million in revenue, bringing its total to $115 million — still on the low side for a Best Picture winner, but I’m sure the producers aren’t complaining.
The only other new release to crack the Top 10 was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which made $4.65 million — good enough for eighth place.
Here’s the complete Top 10 at the box office for the weekend ending 3/1/09:

I’m ecstatic that the Jonas Bros movie bombed!
