dh-logo1.jpg There were two episodes of Desperate Housewives last night, bringing the very uneven Season 5 to a rather dull conclusion. The eps were called “Everybody Says Don’t” and “If It’s Only In Your Head” and finally resolved the Dave Williams/Dash mystery — hopefully for good. But what a major letdown that was! All of that scheming and planning, all of those misdirections, the agonizingly slow plot development, all of it was for that non-payoff where nobody died??? What the…?!

And I’m not even sure I understood what really happened there. In the end they showed Dave in the mental institution in Boston. Since the episode was called “If It’s Only I Your Head”, were we supposed to take that to mean that Dave just…I don’t know, hallucinated all that stuff?? That probably won’t make sense if I actually think about it, but seriously, I don’t think I care enough anymore.

Other thoughts:

– Lynette pregnant again? With twins again? Is this the only way the writers can make the Scavo family seem “interesting”? By adding more babies to the mix? Good god, I don’t even want to think about the kinds of storylines they’ll come up with. The only one that would be even somewhat unexpected would be if Lynette and Tom decide to have an abortion, but there’s no way in HELL that’s happening on primetime TV.

– What’s up with this niece that Carlos and Gaby have taken in? This is another plotline that seems like a rehash of something from last year. Remember when Mallory Keaton was dealing drugs out of the Solis house? Well, this is kind of the same thing inasmuch as the writers are counting on a third party to disrupt the household. Yawn.

– Bree and Karl… such an unlikely couple, but I’m definitely intrigued by the possibility. Their scenes were the few bright spots in the entire two hours.

– Does anyone doubt for a second that Mike is marrying Susan again? I actually prefer them to Mike and Katherine, I guess, but still. What’s the point of having that be some sort of “cliffhanger”? Finding out who the bride is certainly isn’t enough to compel me to tune in first thing for Season 6.

– This season started off with so much promise because of the time jump and everything. All the characters had a chance to reboot, so to speak, and it worked for the first 10 eps or so. But then the writers fell back into their old habits, and here we are treading over the same damn ground again. Oh, man.

Well, I’m not sure if I can go through another season of this. I shed several shows this year (Prison Break, Cold Case, CSI, New Adventures of Old Christine, etc.) and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. Desperate Housewives is now officially on my viewing bubble. Depending on what I pick up over the summer, I might not be back for Season 6. :(
