Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen managed to hold off stiff competition from animated feature Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Johnny Depp’s gangster flick Public Enemies to retain the box office title. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox’s critically panned robot flick earned $47.6 million this Fourth of July weekend, bringing its total gross to $299 million.
Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which is the third installment in the Ice Age series, earned $42.5 million and has raked in a total of $67.5 million since July 1. Public Enemies, the only Depp film outside the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that I’ve wanted to see in theaters, made $26.2 million over the weekend, and has grossed $41 million thus far.
There were no other new releases that cracked the top 10 last week. The rest of the list consists of movies that were there last week, albeit in a slightly different order:
