There’s actually still one day left to go in this three-day weekend, but box office estimates are usually accurate enough to release a list this early and not have much change when the final numbers come in. That said, The Final Destination held onto the top spot for the second week in a row, despite pulling in just $12.4 million. You can definitely tell this is the end of the summer blockbuster season, when a piddling gross like that wins the week!
Second place went to All About Steve, the new romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and the suddenly-hot Bradley Cooper. This film opened with a disappointing $11.2 million gross, which was considerably lower than expected, especially given the successes of Bullock’s and Cooper’s most recent films, The Proposal and The Hangover, respectively.
Two other new releases made it into the top 10: Gamer, a sci-fi thriller starring Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall, earned $9 million, while Mike Judge’s Extract generated $4.2 million in revenue.
