Not many celebrities have college degrees, which I guess is understandable. In their line of work, looks and talent are far more important than brains or paper qualifications. A lot of them actually attended college for at least a brief time before making it big in Tinsel Town. For example, you’ve probably heard that Matt Damon dropped out of Harvard, that Brad Pitt exited Mizzou just a few credits short of graduating, and that Reese Witherspoon left Stanford early.
But how about celebs that do have degrees? The list might surprise you. For instance, would you have guessed that Adam Sandler has a Master’s of Fine Arts from New York University? Or that Jerry Bruckheimer has a psychology degree from the University of Arizona? How about Jay Leno? He has a degree from Emerson College in…speech therapy.
And some celebrities have opted to get an online college degree so they don’t have to deal with all the paparazzi and attention that their presence on campus would have. For instance, basketball superstar Shaquille O’Neal completed his degree in 2000 via the Internet, and Steven Spielberg finished his degree at California State University at Long Beach in 2001. Apparently, he did some “independent projects” to get it.
Then there are younger celebs like Emma Watson, who is a freshman at Brown University this fall. It’s great that even though she’s famous and financially set for life thanks to the Harry Potter franchise, she still thinks it’s important to get an education. More young stars should be like her!
