HIMYM 5×16 — “Hooked”: Maybe I was just happy to have HIMYM back after another hiatus, but I thought this episode was pretty good. There weren’t any real laugh-out-loud moments, but it was mostly enjoyable and none of the plot lines dragged. Carrie Underwood was a decent guest star (I didn’t think she was nearly as bad as some reports made her out to be) and I thought the “on the hook” storyline had a lot of truth to it. I haven’t participated in the dating world in more than a decade, but back when I was active, I definitely had experience with both sides of being hooked, so I could pretty much sympathize with everyone in this ep.
It surprised me that Ted had someone on the hook. He seems far too nice to do something like that. And it seemed completely out of character for him to just walk out on her when Tiffany called — especially after seeing all the food she had prepared for him.
The teacup pigs were cute, and Barney wasn’t nearly as over the top and clownish as he has been in the past few eps. My only complaint about this one was that, once again, there was absolutely zero mention of the mother. Let’s get that show on the road!
