It’s been ages since I’ve watched my Moonlighting DVDs. I originally bought all five seasons because I quit watching the show during Season 4 way back when and didn’t even know how the story ended. I wanted to get through all the eps in order and finally see what happened to Maddie Hayes, David Addison, and the Blue Moon Detective Agency. But unfortunately, I got bogged down in the utterly craptastic fourth season yet again and had to stop watching for a while.
Then last weekend I didn’t really have anything to do, so I decided to dust off the DVDs again and try to get going with the 5th season. I ended up watching four episodes: “A Womb With a View”, “Between a Yuk and a Hard Place”, “The Color of Maddie”, and “Plastic Fantastic Lovers”.
I thought “Womb With a View” was totally dumb. This is the one where Bruce Willis dressed up as a baby and played “Baby Hayes” for the whole ep. Ugh, it was terrible! And of course the episode ended with Maddie’s miscarriage. What a copout on the writers’ part.
The next two eps weren’t anything special, and nothing really memorable happened in either one. But I thought Plastic Fantastic Lovers was pretty good, at least when compared to all the bad episodes that led up to it. Plus, the bloopers and outtakes at the end was a nice bonus.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the chase scenes are getting more and more slapstick-y as the series goes along. Moonlighting was never a serious detective show, but it went WAY over the top far too many times.
Oh, well… 9 more eps and then I can sell my collection on eBay for a few bucks!
