The Good Wife 3×01 –”A New Day” I thought this was an awesome premiere! The courtroom scenes felt a bit uneven at times and I totally did not understand the point of the daughter’s tutor, but other than that, I loved everything! I have to admit, the writers had me going about Will and Alicia. I thought for sure she had backed out at the last minute at that hotel and that’s why he was giving her the cold shoulder. Turns out, it was for the exact opposite reason!! And they’re still doing it, too! Wow, I was never really on board with this ship, but I guess I can see how it has potential.
I also thought it was awesome how Diane knows something is up with her people. She told Kalinda and Alicia to “make it better,” and then she called Will out for being too hard on Alicia, saying she feels like the only adult in the room. Ha! Actually, all of the workplace stuff was golden, and I’m already loving having Eli Gold right across the hall. Can’t wait for next week!
Modern Family 3×03 — “Phil on Wire”: This was an ok episode with some decent parts. Though I could totally see Phil wanting to copy the Man on Wire stuff, the storyline still somehow fell a littl flat. I expected something bigger/better at the end, but that never happened. I did like the “now I have two ways to cross my lawn” quote, though.
Castle 4×02 — “Heroes & Villains”: This was a pretty good episode. I loved how Castle got so excited at the prospect of a “real” superhero meting out vigilante justice, and that Beckett was actually somewhat into that angle as well. The case was interesting and had some twists that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I’m glad Officer Hastings had nothing to do with the actual killing, because that would have just been too random. And I know this is just the shipper in me talking, but I enjoyed the parallel between Hastings and the comic book writer and Beckett and Castle.
NCIS 9×01– “Nature of the Beast”: WTF was that?? I was unable to follow the story at all, and couldn’t figure out if it was because I didn’t remember last season very well or because the ep was a convoluted mess. I’m leaning towards the latter. Honestly, the season-long who’s-backstabbing-whom plots on shows like this just bug me to death. I don’t tune in for arcs that span 24 episodes; I just want a solid hour of entertainment featuring my favorite characters investigating their case of the week. Is that really too much to ask???
Criminal Minds 7×01 — “It Takes a Village”: I know I said I was going to stop watching Criminal Minds, but that was because Season 6 sucked BIG TIME. The spy stuff was just stupid and boring, and I wasn’t really interested in watching the team minus JJ and Prentiss. But when I heard that both JJ and Emily would be back on the team for good, that changed my mind a bit and I decided to give the show another chance. The premiere was pretty much what I expected it to be: a vehicle for tying up loose ends and getting the team ready for the usual Unsub of the Week stories. I’m all for that!
Community 3×01 — Biology 101: This wasn’t a great premiere, but I guess like with Criminal Minds, this throwaway ep was necessary to wrap up last season’s Evil-Pierce-is-kicked-out-of-the-group storyline and set up some ongoing stuff for this year.
I’m having a few friends over tomorrow night for an Emmy watching party. I haven’t done this in a while and don’t really have the energy to go all out, so this is going to be a relatively low-key affair with just a few snacks like chips and dip, as well as a couple of pizzas.
I just read an article where the author laments that the women on this year’s People magazine Best-Dressed List are all boring. He says that winners like Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Blake Lively, Kate Middleton, Jennifer Hudson, et al. are “woefully predictable” because of their inclusion, and calls their tastes “too safe.” Apparently, he would prefer winners who go “Goth” or wear “androgynous” apparel. I guess that means he would rather see Aniston in a pair of greasy overalls, looking like she’s about to install an
