NCIS 9×01– “Nature of the Beast”: WTF was that?? I was unable to follow the story at all, and couldn’t figure out if it was because I didn’t remember last season very well or because the ep was a convoluted mess. I’m leaning towards the latter. Honestly, the season-long who’s-backstabbing-whom plots on shows like this just bug me to death. I don’t tune in for arcs that span 24 episodes; I just want a solid hour of entertainment featuring my favorite characters investigating their case of the week. Is that really too much to ask???
Criminal Minds 7×01 — “It Takes a Village”: I know I said I was going to stop watching Criminal Minds, but that was because Season 6 sucked BIG TIME. The spy stuff was just stupid and boring, and I wasn’t really interested in watching the team minus JJ and Prentiss. But when I heard that both JJ and Emily would be back on the team for good, that changed my mind a bit and I decided to give the show another chance. The premiere was pretty much what I expected it to be: a vehicle for tying up loose ends and getting the team ready for the usual Unsub of the Week stories. I’m all for that!
Community 3×01 — Biology 101: This wasn’t a great premiere, but I guess like with Criminal Minds, this throwaway ep was necessary to wrap up last season’s Evil-Pierce-is-kicked-out-of-the-group storyline and set up some ongoing stuff for this year.
I don’t really have much to say about what went on in this one. The thing that stood out most for me was how…handicapped they made Abed seem. I know he’s supposed to have a slight case of Asperger’s or something, but having him scream like Rainman and mumble incoherently upon learning that Cougar Town is a mid-season replacement this year was just taking the whole conceit too far. I guess I just don’t understand why Abed is such a fan favorite when he’s definitely my least liked character on the show.
