I’ve been watching a lot of college football halftime shows this year and am impressed with many of the marching bands I’ve seen. I usually don’t get into that sort of thing, but for some reason have been noticing the bands more this year.
In particular, I like the University of Tennessee marching band. They sound great — especially the drum majors. Whenever they start banging away with their Innovative Percussion Mallets during the Circle Drill, I get goose bumps. It looks and sounds very, very cool!
I was never very musically inclined, but if I’d known about university marching bands when I was in elementary school, maybe I would have taken up a percussion instrument early on. Wow, how can you not get inspired by this?
Since I work from home a lot, I am often disturbed by all the noises and distractions commonly heard during normal business hours: lawn mowers, traffic, delivery drivers, etc. These sounds can really interfere with my productivity, so I purchased noise cancelling headphones a while ago. Are you interested in short films? To be honest, I’ve never really watched any shorts before, not even those that win Oscars. But this weekend I took a look at something called Smoke, a 2008 effort by Polish filmmaker Grzegorz Cisiecki. It’s described as “the story of [a] person who became the captive of surrealistic madness” and is surprisingly engrossing. I say “surprisingly” because the surrealistic nature of the scenes (and complete lack of dialogue) make it impossible to determine with certainty exactly what is going on. But the beautiful photography and alluring scenes kept me watching throughout the entire 7-minute running time. If you like David Lynch’s work, you’ll probably enjoy Smoke as well. Check it out right here!
Why is there still baseball preempting my favorite television shows in November?? Isn’t the season supposed to end in October? I really hate that the games are still going on, so here’s hoping the
